I’m excited to introduce you to one of our new bloggers and avid readers, Sara DeVaney! I’m super excited to have her with us on a continuing basis. She will be discussing her unique book club as well as other topics. So be sure and welcome her in the comments below!
And now, heeeere’s Sara!
When I was in elementary school, some girls and their mothers started a book club at church. My mom and I joined and that was the start of our first book club.
Flash forward to 2020 when COVID hit. I’m celebrating my birthday with just my parents. I open one of my last presents and it’s a book called Haroun and the Sea of Stories. There was also a sticky note attached that read – this is the start of our own Mother and Daughter book group – love Mom.
My mom and I now meet when we can to discuss our books. So far, we’ve read: Haroun and the Sea of Stories (chosen by my mom) Goosebumps: The Haunted Mask (chosen by me) Beautiful Music (chosen by my mom) Alex & Eliza (chosen by me) The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek (chosen by my mom) Black Beauty (chosen by me) Educated (chosen by my mom) The Number One Ladies’ Dect. Agency (chosen by me) Unorthodox (chosen by my mom) A Wrinkle in Time (chosen by me).
At our book discussions, we talk about the book & the author before we discuss what we liked most & least about the book. We have a few books coming up for our discussion, including Conceal, Don’t Feel.
The best part of the book club is that I’m with my best friend – my mom. We’ve always been close, and this is such a fun activity for us to do. I’ve learned so much, not only from the books we’ve read, but from this incredible woman I’m proud to call my mom.
Thanks, for joining me today!
