Q: How did you get started doing the YouTube channel?
A: I started the channel about six years ago when I decided to record myself reading one of my favorite children’s books, Bony Legs. My nieces and nephews always loved when I would tell them stories and I wanted a way to share this fun story with them. After that I decided to record other books and stories that I enjoyed while growing up.
Q: What made you decide to read children’s books aloud and post them on YouTube?
A: In addition to my previous answer, I have had many people tell me I have a great voice for radio and narration. I thought this would be a good platform to share my voice with others.
Q: How do you choose the books you narrate?
A: Most of the books I have read on my channel are from my childhood and/or my wife’s childhood, and some are from recommendations from family members.
Q: Do you have young children in your life?
A: I have one son and 17 nieces and nephews. I am affectionally referred to as the “Funcle” or Fun-Uncle by my siblings.
Q: Regarding narrating books, have you done any other types of books besides children’s books? Would you like to?
A: I enjoy narrating all sorts of things and would love to narrate more types of stories and books. Children’s books have a special place in my heart because the stories are simple and often have a good lesson or moral to teach as well as being entertaining. I would love to narrate any well-told story.
Q: Do you have any hobbies? What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I love spending time with my family, reading, exercising, studying other languages, and playing the drums.
Q: What is your all-time favorite book? Movie?
A: I have two favorite books; one is called Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz. It is a collection of ghost stories. The other is The Four-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris and is a personal development book.
My favorite all-time movie is Back to the Future.
Q: When you read for yourself, what is your favorite genre?
A: I enjoy personal development books and science fiction.
Q: After a difficult day what do you do to recuperate? How do you unwind?
A: I like to play something on the drums. It allows me to unwind and have fun at the same time.
Q: For what are you grateful?
A: To live in a free country, to have a family who loves and supports me, and to have a healthy mind and healthy body.
Q: If you could go back in time to when you were seven years old, what wisdom or advice would you pass on to yourself?
A: Work hard at everything you do and stand up for yourself.
Q: At what age were you the happiest? What triggered such joy?
A: I think my senior year of high school was a particularly happy time for me. I had figured out who I was, at least for that stage of my life and had confidence in myself.
Q: How can an author get hold of you if they would like to discuss hiring you as the narrator of their audiobooks?
A: I would be happy to discuss narrating your books! Please reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can make sure we are on the same page (pun intended) with what type of narration you are looking for.
